Top Rope Anchors Course

Top Rope Anchors Course

Caught the climbing bug and wondering how you can start to learn more? Setting up safe anchors is the first step to becoming an independent climber outside. Your life and others depends directly on your anchor building knowledge. Our club-run ‘Top Rope Anchors Course’ will teach you how to build a variety of anchors, select and use appropriate gear and assess and manage the risks involved when climbing outdoors.

This course is for anyone with some climbing experience looking to advance to the next level, either from the indoor wall setting or on the way to leading their own climbs. You will need to have some experience climbing and belaying (indoors or outdoors) and be willing to do a bit of pre-study learning before the course date (mainly practising knots). The amount of participants on the course is limited to 8.

There is no charge for this course. As a club, we want people to develop and take part in the club’s life as a helper or a leader. Once you have completed the course, the club will expect you to commit to assist rigging top ropes at a minimum of 6 Wednesday Club nights over the summer. The first 10 top rope anchors you build (as a minimum) on club nights will have to be checked and assessed by a Club Leader before anyone climbs on the rope. After this, you will be assessed and checked off as a top rope leader. If you really don’t think you can commit to helping to rig top ropes at club nights and are still really keen to do the course then we would charge £100 to attend the course with no future obligation to the club.
